September 25 – RISE Nominations

Jodi Jorgensen, Pony Express Elementary; teacher

Ms. Jorgensen teacher always welcome kids and her stories. She is one of the more kind and knowledgeable teachers that I have ever seen. She was so kind with my son after a rough transition from one school to the other. In addition, she always find the way to support my son with love and strategies to make him improve his confidence and knowledge. She helped my son use his skills to be more kind and empathetic with other students. Finally, the day my son started his middle school, she surprised him with a big welcoming hug that erased all his worries and doubts for his first middle school day.

Ms. Jorgensen brings a fun learning environment to the classroom. This is the first year my child enjoys the classroom she is in. My child tells me everyday that her teacher never raises her voice and she truly feels cared about. Mrs. Jorgensen makes sure every child is happy and thriving in her classroom. I feel confident sending my child school everyday because I know she treats the students like they are her own. So grateful for a wonderful teacher!”

Layton Darrington, Harvest Elementary; teacher

I was in Mr. D’s class for 4th grade, 2 years ago. He always made sure everyone received equal attention and made all students feel noticed, not just his classroom students, all students. He is very attentive and helpful and helped me learn at my own pace. Mr. Darrington is so patient and very organized. His positivity made school fun and exciting. I will miss seeing him when I go to middle school next year.

Lili Jin, Alpine Elementary; teacher

Ms. Jin is an AMAZING teacher. She loves her students and has high expectations for them. She is encouraging and helpful, and knows how to motivate students to learn and love learning. Our first grader was so happy to go to her class and learned so much from her, both in Chinese and Math. We can’t believe the progress he made in those subjects. She is a fantastic teacher and we appreciate all she did for our son. We won’t forget her!”

Casie Miller, Windsor Elementary; classroom aide

I have been blessed to work with Casie for almost a year now as my aide. She is amazing and is always willing to jump in and help. She cares for each of the students and tries to them them succeed. She is such a great friend and coworker!

Justin Taylor, Orem Junior; teacher

Mr. Taylor inspires me with his work ethic, preparation, and attention to detail every day. At the end of last year, he was approached to teach a brand new beginning percussion class. His experience as a high school drumline instructor and as a history teacher at our school made him a logical fit to fill the role. Ever since taking on this class, Mr. Taylor comes prepared with clear lesson plans, objectives, and content to teach his beginners. His students remain engaged and excited as he tackles hard concepts; he encourages to rise to the challenge and helps support them in that process.

Mrs. Velasquez shows kindness every time and she always has a smile on her face for me and my family. I know she is just as kind to everyone around her. Megan Hansen, Timberline Middle; teacher

Ms. Hansen is a great teacher, known for her ability to inspire and motivate students to learn. With her engaging teaching methods and infectious enthusiasm, she has the remarkable ability to make even the most reluctant learners want to actively participate in class. Her passion for education is evident in the way she creates an environment that fosters curiosity and a love for learning. As a result, students not only excel academically but also genuinely enjoy going to school.

April Felix, Aspen Elementary; counselor

Mrs. Felix is sunshine incarnate. Her smile is uplifting and genuine, and you can tell she enjoys and takes pride in her career. Our family had a rough patch last year and her tenderness and compassion was so helpful for my son as well as myself! I am so grateful for this magnificent woman.

Miranda Timpson, Desert Sky Elementary; long term substitute

Mrs. Timpson is a substitute teacher, but she has definitely made an impact on the kids from Mrs. James’ kindergarten class, and especially my son. Mrs. Timpson has had to take over for the class for several weeks and she’s doing a great job at it. She’s carrying a lot and doing a great job at it.

Aimee Watson, Desert Sky Elementary; classroom aide

Aimee is an incredible aide in my kindergarten classroom. She is always ready to do the next thing to help the kids, anticipating what they need, and she cares so much. I would not be able to do my job without her. The kids love her and she is just a genuinely wonderful person.

Elizabeth Williams, Aspen Elementary; teacher

My son had Mrs. Williams for the 2nd grade. I was present for the last day of school and almost EVERY child was crying because they didn’t want to leave her class! She also cried! Even I cried! She has been one of the sweetest, remarkable, most attune teachers I’ve met. Every friend of my son who had her for school agrees that she has been their favorite teacher ever. She’s just wonderful!

Amy Clay, Lindon Elementary; teacher

Ms. Clay has been nothing short of amazing and the year just got started. My son is a student who needs some extra attention & care in certain areas & had some struggles last year that I was worried about for the new school year. From day 1 Ms. Clay was eager to collaborate with me on what we could do to help my son. She listened to me. She did her due diligence in reading his IEP & speaking with his former teacher & resource teacher. She has gone above and beyond to help him feel comfortable, safe, & loved in her classroom & he LOVES her. We are so very grateful for Ms. Clay!

Emily Utykanski, Silver Lake Elementary; teacher

Emily is incredible at what she does. It can be incredibly embarrassing having to be pulled out of class to work on areas you’re struggling in, but Emily makes it fun and exciting. My son looks forward to the days he gets to work with her. I appreciate how she finds ways to help him learn and keeps school fun and exciting. We love her and see the difference she has made in his life.

Karen and Alan have supported my son in so many ways. I know that if they supported him the way the did, they supported the other students just the same. They helped my son gain the confidence he lacked and always encouraged him to discover his strengths by inspiring him to do his best, not to give up and always to try again.

Carolyn Carter, Springside Elementary; teacher

Ms. Carter deserves the RISE Award for her exceptional dedication and support. Going into this school year, both my daughter and I had some concerns, and Ms. Carter addressed those concerns promptly. She has consistently made the effort to recognize and encourage my daughter through personalized handwritten notes and has already built a strong relationship with her. She exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding educator and is making a lasting impact on ALL of her students. We are looking forward to a SUPER year with her as the teacher! Debbie Montgomery, Desert Sky Elementary; librarian

Debbie is amazing. I am nominating her not only as a coworker but as a parent. My daughter loves to the library because Mrs. Montgomery pours her heart and soul into that space. Her love of books and reading has not only inspired my daughter to read more books, but she has lit a fire in my first graders and they get so excited to go to library every week. Debbie you make a difference every day !!

Miss Halee is loved by all the kids. She takes them all under her wing and gives them love. She is always a support to the teachers and other school employees. She handles herself with grace and dignity and she is always looking for ways to help. Miss Haley is outstanding with the kids and they love and respect her. She knows them all by name and always finds a way to relate to them.

Rachel Lewis, Canyon View Junior; teacher

Ms. Lewis is remarkably compassionate. My daughter misses a lot of school because of health issues, and she is unfailing kind and helpful. She also selflessly spent time over the summer to help my daughter work on math she had missed while she was sick. She encourages not only her students, but me, whenever I communicate with her. She is steady and unflappable, always available to help students help new concepts.

Kirstin Bybee, Lindon Elementary; teacher

I was in Miss Bybee’s first 4th grade classroom. Years have passed and my my nephew is now in her 4th grade classroom present day. I have never felt more relived and reassured knowing my loved one is in her care during the daytime school hours. I remember her love, and genuine care for me and my class. Back then she inspired me to be my best version of myself. And my young nephew agrees. To this day, she is still as present, caring, and attentive as ever. He says he feels safe, including, and happy in her inviting/warm classroom. She has left lasting impressions on legacies of hearts and minds.

Lynn Meek, Skyridge High; counselor

I cannot say enough good things about Mr. Meek. He went above and beyond to help my daughter, Peyton. She was struggling, and he immensely helped her with her schedule. I am truly grateful that Skyridge employs such caring and dedicated individuals to support their students. They truly make a difference in the lives of the students.

I went through a hard time this year with losing all my friends because they were dragging me down and I had to change a class this year 4 weeks in to get out of a situation. I didn’t expect much because it was already so far into the school year, but Mr. Meek immediately helped me out and told me what a bright student I was and that he was glad to see me still in school trying to get out of the hole I was in. He put me in a class that I am loving right now. Mr. Meek deserves this award because he helped me get out of a bad situation and be able to thrive in school.”

Mrs. Whittaker’s kindness, dedication, and genuine care have left a lasting impact on my daughter and her classmates. She consistently went above and beyond, not just in the classroom but even after the school year ended, ensuring my daughter’s well-being and success. Theron Murphy, Timpanogos High; administrator

The reason that I feel like Murphy should receive the RISE Award is that he takes time out of a busy schedule to be there for all the students at Timpanogos High School. He is the hallways greeting the students and making sure that they are doing well and is willing to take time to talk to them. He also attends sport activities which is very amazing and supportive of him. He has set standards for the students to strive and do their best to make it in today’s world and he lives by the standards he has set for everyone at the school. I have never seen anyone more active with their school than him.

Kharent Warren, Mountain Ridge Junior; counselor

Kharent Warren is an absolute powerhouse. She does what it takes to not only get her job done, but to do it well, while still being mindful of teachers, students, and her colleagues. I have no idea how she balances everything, but somehow she does. Her incredible work ethic and no nonsense approach, coupled with deep empathy and kindness for all of those around her, makes her a person that students and teachers respect and feel secure around because she runs a tight ship, but they also feel truly supported and loved by her as well. I want to be Kharent when I grow up! Thank you for all you do!!

Emily Goodman, Highland Elementary; teacher

Mrs. Goodman is an amazing teacher! She is always smiling. She is positive and encouraging with the kids. Even when she was pregnant and about to have a baby she was kind and patient with the kids. She is organized, diligent in her duties, and consistent, which breeds confidence in the kids. Mrs. Goodman is a caring teacher and wonderful influence on our kids!

Lara Harvey, Liberty Hills Elementary; teacher

Lara always goes above and beyond to make sure all of her students are progressing, and as a parent, I really appreciate her daily notes and reports so I know exactly what kind of day my son has had. Every day at pick up she tells me something my son has done well and ideas for ways we can help him enjoy skill development. She is a go-getter and really goes the extra mile! We love Lara!

Tim Miller, Cedar Valley High; teacher

Tim is an excellent teacher with great classroom management and is always there for his students. Also, Coach Miller is a phenomenal baseball coach and someone the athletes look up too.

Tim is one of those people who is willing to help any student as well as teacher. He is excellent at organization and lesson planning. His lessons are always geared for the least athletic ability to the best. Kristen Cottrell, Aspen Elementary; teacher

Mrs. Cottrell is a teacher that makes every student feel seen and heard. She makes the kids feel at ease when learning new things and is so encouraging. We love that she knows her students from before and gets excited to see them. We truly love her and all that she does for her students.
