During his 38 years of service in public education, Dr. Henshaw taught social studies at Lehi High School and filled many administrative positions; specifically, assistant principal at Provo High School and principal of American Fork and Timpanogos high schools, and assistant superintendent of 10-12 schools, before serving as superintendent of schools, where he has led Alpine School District through growth, transition, and academic improvement for 15 years. Dr. Henshaw’s retirement date is July 31, 2015.

PG High volleyball coach named NFHS 2014 West Sectional Coach of the Year

AllycePleasant Grove High School Volleyball Coach Allyce Jones, has recently been named the National Federation of State High School Associations 2014 West Sectional Coach of the Year in the sport of volleyball.  The West section includes the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

Allyce’s contributions to the athletics program at PGHS are truly deserving of our recognition and thanks!

Lone Peak teacher uses calculus to teach about life

The Deseret News recently published an article about Mr. Craig SmithCraig Smith, a teacher at Lone Peak High School who is using calculus to teach about life.  This article is a prime example of the many outstanding teachers that we have in Alpine School District. Teachers throughout the district are continuously looking for ways to be better teachers and help our students become better students.  Each teacher brings different qualities and teaching styles to the classrooms within our schools.   We continue to be amazed at the level of dedication they have to their profession and their students.

Winner of Utah’s Martin Luther King Essay/Video Contest

The Utah State Office to Education recently announced the winners of the state’s 31st annual Martin Luther King, Jr. essay and video contest. Secondary school students from throughout the state are annually invited to submit essay or video entrees based on civil rights themes to the contest which is judged by volunteers from the Utah State Office of Education and school districts.

Essay and video contest winners for each grade level (seven through 12) win $50, though the overall junior high (grades seven through nine) and senior high school (grades 10 through 12) win $150. The students will also be honored with a luncheon on Jan. 14 at the Davis School District Office in Farmington. There were 475 essay entries and 15 video entries in 2014.

Vista Heights eighth grader, Haylee Tuttle, along with 3 other students from around the state were named individual grade winners for their essay.

Congratulations, Haylee!  We are proud of your effort and achievement!

Utah Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year

STA GLAHN PETERMountain View High School Assistant Principal Peter Glahn, was named Utah Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year.  Mr. Glahn will represent Utah in the MetLife Principal of the Year competition.

Glahn, a former ambassador to Portugal for the American Councils and Fulbright Exchange Program, has been assistant principal at Mountain View High since 2009. “He is able to see issues from multiple perspectives and can bring people together through his ability to communicate in such a way that other understand the bigger picture and where compromise can be reached,” said Mountain View Principal Taran Chun.
