The Alpine School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Samuel Y. Jarman as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2015.
Jarman will succeed Dr. Vernon M. Henshaw who announced his retirement in March. Jarman’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Board of Education at a special meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
Superintendent Jarman has an extensive career in education dating back to 1986 when he was first employed as a drafting teacher at Provo High School. Between 1992-1997, he worked as assistant principal at American Fork High and American Fork Junior High schools. Jarman next served as Principal of Provo High for seven years. By 2004 he returned to the Alpine School District, accepting a position as Administrator of 10-12 schools, which he held for eight years. In 2012, Mr. Jarman was appointed to the position of Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Schools.
Jarman is enthusiastic about his new role and recently said, “I feel humbled by this opportunity and am fortunate to work with remarkable educators and employees of this district. I look forward to continued partnership with families in providing the best education for our students in the Alpine School District.”
Board President John Burton remarked, “Though the quality of applicants was exceptional and as strong as anything we’ve seen, as a board, we are confident that Sam Jarman is the right individual to move us forward.”
