Alpine School District is pleased to announce the second phase of the Skyward System Implementation. All elementary schools went live on this new Student Information System during the fall and winter of 2009/2010 with secondary schools joining the system during the 2010-2011 school year.
The following information can be found in parent user accounts: basic student demographic information, current grades, academic history, attendance, GPA information for secondary students, graduation requirement information, test scores, schedule information, calendar, email notifications and login history.
Parents with student in both elementary and secondary schools will be able to see all of their Alpine School District student’s with one user name and password.
We are very excited about how Family Access will help you stay informed about your student’s progress and hope that we can use this tool to create a stronger relationship between parents and our schools.
Please e-mail skywardinfo@alpine.k12.ut.us with questions regarding this new application.
What is Skyward?
Skyward is the new student information that began being implemented in Alpine School District (ASD) starting with elementaries in Fall 2009 and concluding with the secondary schools coming on board during the 2010-2011 school year.
Family Access by Skyward, Inc. is a secure internet-based website for parents that will allow you to easily keep track of important information about your child’s attendance and grades. Family Access is provided by Alpine School District as a free service and will be available to all parents with children enrolled in the district.
Why is ASD leaving Powerschool?
For the past ten years, PowerSchool provided wonderful features for parents and ASD employees. The parent web portal, for example, has provided parents with the opportunity to see grades and attendance for their students. Alpine’s version of PowerSchool (Pro) is no longer supported; however, in 2008, the Alpine School District opened up a RFP (Request for Proposal) to evaluate options for a new student information system that could keep up with student growth and information needs.
How did ASD Choose Skyward?
The process to select our new Skyward student information system has been thorough, thoughtful, and informed. ASD began exploring options for a new student information system in October 2008. Early on in the process we partnered with Kerry Consulting Group, an independent consulting firm with 25 years of experience with student information system selection.
Multiple committees were formed to aid in the selection process. The committees included teachers, principals, parents, secretaries, registrars, counselors, departments, and others who will use the student information system. We involved those who will use the new system and provided opportunities to tell us what functionality was critical. We incorporated this feedback into the functionality requirements that we evaluated all potential replacement systems against.
Why did ASD Choose Skyward?
Together we decided that Skyward offered the functionality that best met our unique requirements, a user interface that was efficient, intuitive, and easy to use, all at a cost that was financially responsible. Skyward has a proven track record in Utah districts and other districts of our size and represents the best solution for Alpine School District.
Why would ASD purchase a new system in this current economy?
The Current version of PowerSchool (PowerSchool Pro) is no longer supported. This required that Alpine purchase a new SIS system.
Who made the decision to switch to the new SIS?
Over 50 Alpine School District employees participated in the demonstrations of potential systems. At the conclusion of the demonstrations we thoughtfully ranked each proposed solution, based on our functional requirements, the “look and feel” of the proposed solutions, and cost. The Board of Education gave final approval for the purchase of the system and a multi-year contract was signed in April 2009.
When do I as a parent switch to Skyward?
You can access the Implementation Schedule by clicking on the following link: Implementation Schedule by School. Remember, dates are subject to change based on the implementation of the first schools. PowerSchool will not be available at the elementary level while we complete the transition from PowerSchool to Skyward. These changes do not affect the secondary schools for the 2009-2010 school year. During this transition, we ask you to contact your teacher directly if you have any questions on grades and the office for attendance. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Where do I go to set up a parent account?
You will notified by your school once you are able to set up an account–a username and password will be furnished to you. Parent accounts cannot be set up until the Parent Go Live date on the implementation schedule (see link above for more information).
How do I change my Parent Portal Password?
1) Click on the Account Info button (third from the right in the right hand corner).
2) Click on the Change My Password button on the right hand side of the page (directly below top menu).
Will switching to this new system save money over time?
Yes. ASD signed a multi-year contract that will allow cost effective growth and capabilities for the next several years by bringing ASD’s student data into one place. Cost savings will be seen in reduction of dual entry, hardware requirements, technical support on teachers’ desktops, reporting, and time to manage on all fronts.
