Groundbreaking for New Middle School in Eagle Mountain
On Thursday, April 5, 2012, Alpine School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new middle school in Eagle Mountain. The new school will open in the fall of 2013 with 1500-1700 students. The program started off with a welcome by Paul Olson, the Administrator of 7-9 schools for Alpine School District followed by a flag ceremony provided by Troop 856. The National Anthem was then sung by the Vista Heights 7th and 8th grade Middle School Choir that included several students that will attend the new Eagle Mountain middle school as 9th graders. Scott Sumner, who is currently the Principal at Oak Canyon Junior High and will be the new Principal in Eagle Mountain, gave some remarks about his excitement to open the new school and to work with the students, parents, and community of Eagle Mountain. School board member, Paula Hill then talked about the vision of the leaders of Alpine School District and the planning and preparation it takes to make a school like the new Eagle Mountain Middle School a reality. The ceremony closed with Superintendent Henshaw, members of the Alpine School District Cabinet, members of the Board of Education, and Eagle Mountain Mayor Heather Jackson breaking ground for the new Eagle Mountain Middle School.
Throughout the next year, Principal Sumner will go through the process of naming the school, hiring the faculty and staff, organizing the PTA and School Community Council, and many other things needed to open the new school.
