Alpine Education Support Professionals Support Primary Children’s Hospital
The Alpine Education Support Professionals were proud to support Primary Children’s Hospital this year. Each year they choose a service project as a way to give back to the community.  They felt Primary Children’s reflects the Alpine philosophy. At both places, the children take front and center stage. From the moment you walk through the door, the children are the first priority.
The AESP Executive Board donated a Christmas tree to the Festival of Trees. Their theme was “if all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops…â€Â This was a great way for the members of their board to stretch beyond their comfort zone and test their creativity.
The media specialists and nutrition services sewed muslin dolls. These dolls were donated so each child admitted to the hospital would have a doll to comfort them. Once started, this project soon turned into a friendly competition between the groups. The secondary schools realized they could reach their full potential if they included their Home Ec teachers. These teachers had their students begin sewing dolls to join in the fun.
The head custodians asked their student councils and faculty to support a donation drive. In this drive crayons, pencils, glue, lotion, bubbles, nail polish and pillow pets were a small variety of the items donated. All the items are new and germ free to go in the hospital. We began with a goal of 15,000 items. Combining with the maintenance, warehouse, transportation and technology departments, the goal was almost laughable, the drive collected 25,000 items!
The National Honor Society of Orem Junior High sorted the items and boxed them to prepare for transport. When making delivery arrangements with Primary Children’s, the spokesperson was almost brought to tears of the generosity of this great district. She wanted to make sure everyone knows…â€they are deeply grateful….â€
Members of the AESP Executive Board, and those who participated, are sure to find Primary Children’s Hospital as an amazing place. Each of them has a child, grandchild or neighbor who has spent time in this incredible hospital. Finding a way to reach your community with a project that is close to your heart is so rewarding for all your members. Classified personnel are not just employees at a school district.  They are patrons and community members who feel passionate about the careers they have chosen….THEY ARE SUPERMEN!!
